Space & Solar

The sun live, every fifteen minutes, from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. Geomagnetic activity from NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. The weather above the weather — where HF radio, GNSS, and aurora forecasts start.

NASA SDO latest solar image
Updated every 15 minutes from Solar Dynamics Observatory. Each wavelength captures a different layer of the sun — 304Å the chromosphere, 171Å the quiet corona, 193Å hot corona and flare plasma, 211Å active regions in iron purple.
Planetary Kp Index · NOAA SWPC

Kp is the global geomagnetic activity index, 0 to 9, updated every 3 hours from eight worldwide magnetometers. Above 5 and geomagnetic storms are in progress — aurora visible further south, HF radio communications degraded, GNSS precision reduced.

Solar imagery from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory. Kp index from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. Phase 2: aurora forecast maps, solar wind parameters from DSCOVR/ACE, Helioviewer multi-instrument composites.
